Retrospective
This retrospective is an opportunity to discover the work of the painter and sculptor Vladimir German, who was born in Kiev (USSR) in 1940, emigrated to the United States in 1981 and settled in Burgundy, in Semur-en-Auxois, in 1991. Despite a series of exhibitions in New York in the 1980s and 1990s, Vladimir German's work had never before been shown in France. Spanning more than five decades, his work is both diverse - in terms of the themes he tackles and the materials he uses - and highly coherent, displaying a vigorous sense of volume, a keen taste for the interplay of composition, a deeply sensitive approach to faces and landscapes, and an ongoing curiosity about all forms and representations, both natural and artistic. The exhibition takes you on a journey through the jumble of his studio, the primary source of inspiration, and presents the diversity of artistic genres he experimented with: portraits painted or sculpted in bas-relief, landscapes, still lifes, assemblages and abstract compositions.
