The Musée Départemental du Compagnonnage, a cultural site of the Department of Saône-et-Loire, is presenting an exhibition devoted to the world of Thierry Coraichon (1950-1987), a self-taught artist and wood sculptor.
A forester by trade, Thierry Coraichon had an intimate relationship with nature from an early age. Fascinated by wood, he has never stopped exploring its shapes, veins and singularities. He sees in each fragment a story to be revealed rather than a form to be imposed. His work, influenced by philosophy, astronomy and art history, bears witness to an intuitive approach.

Thanks to the generosity of his family, his work has now been preserved and brought to light in this exhibition, which invites us to rediscover wood as a living material, a bearer of meaning and memory.

Echoing his world, Marc Averly, sculptor and passionate collector, presents an interactive xylotheque. This precious collection of around 200 species of wood offers a unique sensory experience, exploring the richness and diversity of the material that Thierry Coraichon so cherished.
It's an invitation to discover wood in a whole new way.
